There is a fine line between love and hate...

No one understands this better than our dear couple Mr. Darcy and Lizzy in this variation of Pride and Prejudice.

On a visit to her aunt and uncle in London, Jane Bennet meets and falls in love with Mr. Bingley. They make the trip to Longbourn to receive Mr. Bennet's approval of the match bringing along with them Mr. Bingley's proud friend, Mr. Darcy. Elizabeth immediately dislikes him as he looks at everything surrounding Longbourn with distaste. Even worse, he seems set on separating his friend from her lovely sister.

Elizabeth will not have it. She declares to Mr. Darcy that he has found a foe in her and Mr. Darcy soon finds she is a worthy foe at that. Through their constant bickering and trying to thwart one another's plans, they find that they actually like fighting with one another. Elizabeth with her passion-filled eyes and Mr. Darcy with his straight shoulders and proud chin. But fighting with one another is not a foundation for a serious relationship.

Each must determine if they are willing to remove the barriers their situations and life experiences have placed in their paths. Only then can they allow the other into their lives and hearts for good.

This Pride and Prejudice variation is suitable for all ages.

I enjoyed the plot of this story but it felt a bit rushed. I think 7 or 8 more chapters worth of expansion would add greatly to the story. Darcy's adversarial role to deeply in love happened in what seemed like one page; as did Elizabeth's. The Mr. Collins plot point was never really developed. The Bennett family were barely written into the story and the ending was happily ever after in a few paragraphs. If it's worth writing it's worth developing the story so that it doesn't seem as if it is just rushed to press for the $$.

A Fine Line A Pride Prejudice Variation edition by Erin Butler Lydia Lanor Romance eBooks Reviews

Erin Butler's books are usually edited better than this. There are a great many errors. The story is cute, but the mistakes are very distracting.
This misses the point. Its far too bland and ignored too much. Mr Collins remains there to change Elizabeth 's mind but suddenly is GONE. Mrs Bennett suddenly isn't there to annoy everyone. We get from intense dislike to betrothed in seconds. Missing a great deal. Too bland- pablum.
The story itself is delightful, albeit basically angst-free. The editing could be improved, however. Pluralization is not accomplished with an apostrophe and an "s." And I suspect Regency children were not referred to as "kids," although it's not something I researched. Other than such slips which an editor should catch, her creations are well-done.
The story line was interesting and the characters believable, but the book could use some professional editing. Also, who's picture is on the cover? If it's Elizabeth, why does she have red hair when the book constantly describes her hair as dark brown.
Great storyline and the truthful dialogue between Darcy and Elizabeth is refreshing. Reading many variations like one eats jellybeans, I have often wondered why they ink one thing but say nothing or something very different. This variation breaks through the British reserve! Thank you!

OTOH there are a few editing errors but all in all a nice read.
In great need of editing. For example, in the first paragraph of Chapter Ten, to, too, two and into were used 17 times. I found that to be very awkward. I have enjoyed several of Erin Butler's other variations, but this one was disappointing .
It's just not realistic. Darcy's main reason for separating Bingley from Jane was that the Bennetts lacked propriety and he didn't think Jane loved Charles, but was just doing as her social climbing mother bade her do. In this variation, Darcy is determined to separate them before he ever meets any of Jane's family and even though he sees the affection between them. It just doesn't work.

Also, the author puts the characters into inappropriate situations left and right. Jane traveling in a closed carriage with two unrelated men? Jane and Charles holding hands in public? Darcy writing Miss Bingley letters? And more.

It's short so I finished it but I can't say I recommend it.
